GHG Inventory and Energy Management

Publish Date

31 Aug. 2024

In response to government policies aligned with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement, Avalue has established a greenhouse gas inventory system compliant with ISO 14064-1, enabling detailed inventory and emissions reporting. This allow us to better understand our carbon footprint and develop effective improvement plans, thereby promoting our greenhouse gas emission management measures.

By strengthening our management of greenhouse gas risks, we fulfill our corporate social responsibility and obligations as a global citizen. Avalue believes that through these measures, we can not only reduce our negative environmental impact but also contribute to the future low-carbon economy, promoting sustainable development and creating a healthier, better future.

*Most of Avalue’s global sites are located in industrial parks or modern office buildings, posing challenges for self-generated renewable energy. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to incorporating this concept into our core business strategy. In 2012, Avalue's US subsidiary was the first to install solar panels; simultaneously, the feasibility of solar panels is being gradually assessed in new and old offices of global business units. This not only demonstrates our commitment to environmental responsibility but also showcases our firm steps towards sustainable development. Avalue's resources may be limited, but determination and efforts are boundless.

Energy Management Plan

To achieve the goal of full carbon neutrality in Taiwan offices by 2030, Avalue has developed the following initial energy management plan:

Energy Consumption Assessment:Conducting a comprehensive energy consumption assessment, including electricity and water usage, to understand the company's energy usage and set targets and plans to reduce energy consumption.

Energy-Saving Measures:Implementing energy-saving measures such as replacing lighting fixtures with energy-efficient ones and installing smart sensor switches to reduce electricity and water consumption.

Green Energy:Gradually planning to shift energy sources to renewable energy such as solar and wind power, reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Energy Management System:Establishing a comprehensive energy management system to monitor and manage energy usage, promptly identifying and addressing energy waste issues.

Energy Awareness Enhancement:Conducting employee energy awareness training to educate everyone about the value of energy and the importance of conservation, promoting energy-saving campaigns, advocating a green and low-carbon lifestyle, and enhancing environmental awareness.

In summary, Avalue aims to achieve the goal of full carbon neutrality in Taiwan offices by 2030 through the continuous strengthening and implementation of these measures.

Results of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory

Avalue initiated a corporate greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with ISO 14064-1 in March 2022. The inventory covered our Taipei headquarters, Li-De factory, and Taichung office, encompassing the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023. SGS Taiwan Ltd. was engaged as a third-party verifier to validate the inventory in July 2024.

The table below shows the greenhouse gas emission inventory results for 2022-2023:

Employee Commute Survey

Avalue is committed to promoting sustainability and actively conducting greenhouse gas inventories to reduce carbon emissions. Recognizing that accurate data collection is fundamental to developing effective emission reduction strategies, the company began requiring all employees to complete a commuting survey in 2022. Dedicated personnel are responsible for compiling and categorizing this data.

Accuracy and Consistency

The company provides instructional videos to guide employees on the correct usage of tools and data entry. Furthermore, we have standardized assumptions for using mapping tools to minimize data discrepancies caused by varying settings. This initiative has not only enhanced data consistency but also improved overall data accuracy.

Completeness
Department heads are responsible for overseeing that all employees complete the required commuting data on time and accurately. Employees are required to record both single-trip and total mileage. As the 2023 inventory did not include data on commuting via MRT or train, all calculations were based on the assumption of using a gasoline-powered private passenger car. Emission factors from the Environmental Protection Administration's carbon footprint database were used for calculations.

Findings and Results

The data collected provides valuable insights into Avalue's commitment to greenhouse gas inventory. By gathering this data, the company can not only understand its internal carbon emissions but also establish a solid data foundation for setting future emissions reduction targets and strategies. The company will continue to improve and optimize data collection to ensure its efficiency and accuracy and will encourage employees to use public transportation for short-distance commutes to promote greater participation in sustainability initiatives. Avalue is committed to making a real contribution to environmental protection and carbon emission reduction through concrete actions, striving to become a leader in sustainable development.
